Red Light Therapy for Pain Relief

About 12 months ago now, I was introduced to Red Light Therapy for the first time. I know how debilitating chronic pain can be. I worked as a Bowen therapist for well over 20 years until I retired recently. Bowen is a very effective tried and trusted technique.

For large chunks of time over the last 2 years, therapists were not been able to see their clients, and it was a tough time for those struggling with chronic pain, not being able to get their regular treatments of whatever type of therapy. It was during this time that I damaged my own shoulder whilst having a go at a keep fit You Tube video a bit too eagerly without a warm up. Luckily for me I discovered the Photizo hand held red light devices which are ideal for people to use at home on themselves with no therapist needed!

This doesn't mean to say that therapists are redundant I have to mention! What it does mean, though, is that this amazing little gadget is brilliant not only for clients to use between their Bowen sessions (or whatever their chosen therapy is) but also during their therapy session. Personally I think it's a must have to keep at hand at home, ready for sprains, strains, bruises, and those general aches and pains.

There are a number of models, even one for your pets called the Vetcare - (in fact this one was first on the market), and now there is the Pain Relief model, the Sports model, the Skin Care and the Blush. In this article I am talking about the Pain Relief model as this is the one I use most, but you can read about the other models here.

Being a holistic health practitioner, I love the fact that it is not only safe, effective, non-invasive and drug free but it is also rechargeable. It's also a pleasure to use - it fits neatly into your hand and it is lightweight. There is an inbuilt timer so you know when you are ready to move on to the next area.

So how does it work?

Red light therapy uses the healing power of red and near infrared light at specific wavelengths and frequencies. This speeds up healing by activating the body’s own pain relieving hormones and promotes relaxation hormones such as serotonin. It is painless and fast to use, and no recovery time is required after treatment. The light can feel warm on the skin, but isn't hot.

What can I use it for?

The Photizo is designed to be used on any area of chronic pain including back pain, inflammation, neck pain, knee pain, areas of swelling or arthritis. It gives relief from long term pain. It helps with pain caused by osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and gout, pain caused by nerve damage, muscle spasm, inflammation such as in fibromyalgia, plantar fasciitis, bruising - in fact all manner of aches and pains, muscle strains and sprains.

It also helps with tension headaches, is great for runners as it treats shin splints, tennis elbow, golfers elbow and sciatica. There are so many uses for the Photizo.

How do I use it?

It is so simple to use - you simply place the head of the device on the area of body which you want to treat, push the button and stop when the light goes out. It takes a matter of seconds. Then you move the device to the next area and repeat. It couldn't be easier.
