An Interview With Steve Hunt – Northampton Reflexologist

Steve Hunt reflexologyAn Interview With Steve Hunt

I recently had the good fortune of experiencing a supremely relaxing Facial Reflexology treatment with Steve Hunt and afterwards took the opportunity of asking him some questions about how he came to be a Reflexologist. Enjoy.

Steve, how did you get into being a therapist?

I had become increasingly frustrated in my previous job and knew that I needed to leave. I really wanted the freedom and responsibility of self-employment and I had had a long interest in complementary therapies. This journey took several years for everything to work out for me. Finally, I trained for a year in Reflexology while I was still in employment but gave up my job the day I qualified and was a full-time Reflexologist the next day!

Why did you decide on the therapy that you offer?

My wife was having Reflexology at the time and was reporting back the benefits she was experiencing. I looked into the training required and it seemed to be the right fit for me. I met with the trainers and asked some questions and never looked back.

What are the three biggest benefits you can offer your clients?

The training that I completed was the highest level available in the UK, so when a client comes to me they know they will be getting the best treatment possible. I also offer Facial Reflexology, so if someone wants to look at an alternative treatment, I am able to offer something different, with all the benefits of regular Reflexology with added facial rejuvenation qualities!

I am introducing my “Loyal Soles” scheme shortly, where for everything spent on treatments, clients will get 10% back to spend on Neal’s Yard organic and ethical, health and beauty products. Who doesn’t like free stuff!?

What are the most popular issues that clients ask you to help them with?

I would say stress related issues. That could be poor sleep, digestion, feelings of anxiety etc. PMS is another common one. Sinus problems are common at certain times of the year. Clients love the facial reflexology for the benefits for the skin as well.

Tell me about a day in your life.

I go out for a walk every morning at about 7am and my working day starts following that. The day is then split between treatments and admin tasks that can be less enjoyable but are hugely important. That can be banking, record keeping, social media, blogging, emails, or attending networking meetings. I offer appointments through until into the evening, so sometimes I might finish at 8.30pm, but I am very conscious of pacing myself and taking breaks throughout the day.

Can you give 3 tips that anyone can follow that will help them in their life?

Eat well, move more and plenty of rest.

What are the 3 things that have helped you during your darkest hour/worst times.

My wife.
Walking and fresh air.
A regular mindfulness practice.

What brings you joy?

Time spent with my wife and family.
Being outside.
Doing something for a living that I enjoy, seeing the benefits that it has for clients and the peace that it brings me.

Do you have a list of books that you would recommend and why?

Anything written by Jon Kabat-Zinn, although Full Catastrophe Living would be a good place to start. It is not an overstatement to say that Jon’s books and cd’s have changed my life.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give your 20 year old self?

I would leave him be. All those mistakes were part of the journey that brought me here and so were part of the learning and what made me. I might tell another 20 year old to just find something that they enjoy doing. Work out what nourishes you and do that. Try to avoid things that drain you. Value time and experiences rather than stuff. That doesn’t necessarily mean you have to travel the world or anything to exotic. Learn to appreciate the simple things. Slow down.

So finally Steve, how can people find out more about what you do?

I have a website, www.stevehuntreflexology.com and I am also on Facebook
People can find out more about Reflexology at the Professional Reflexology website at http://www.professionalreflexology.org/
